Wilson Reading System

Wilson Reading System (WRS) is designed primarily for students with dyslexia. Students who retain English as a second language also benefit from Wilson instruction. WRS is helpful for students that have “holes” in their decoding and spelling. To aid in phonically processing, students learn multi-sensory interactive techniques to encode and decode words. This is accomplished in several different ways. Students learn sound symbol relationships with key words (e.g. a apple /a/). Manipulating sound tiles and Finger Tapping help the student sound out words. Syllable segmentation instruction is taught by identifying concept of a syllable and marking up the syllables. The Six Types of Syllable are:

The WRS is cumulative and uses previous lessons to learn and reinforce new rules. Once one syllable words are mastered, two syllables words are introduced. Spelling Rules are taught for each level.

Fluency is reinforced at each level to aid with comprehension. Sight words are available at each level. The students are assessed by written composition as well as chart reading.

The Wilson Reading System is suitable for students with Dyslexia.
